About SIAM@EPFL

Welcome to the website of the EPFL chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. On our website you can find information on past and future events, sign up for chapter membership, find information on SIAM conferences and travel awards, or get in touch with the Chapter Committee.

The events and activities of the Chapter are kindly sponsored by SIAM, the doctoral school of mathematics EDMA, and the EPFL section of Mathematics SMA. The statutes of the EPFL SIAM Chapter are published at this link.

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

SIAM is an international and interdisciplinary community of over 13,000 individual members. Almost 500 academic, manufacturing, research and development, service and consulting organizations, government, and military organizations worldwide are institutional members.

SIAM fosters the development of applied mathematical and computational methodologies needed in these various application areas. Applied mathematics in partnership with computational science is essential in solving many real-world problems. Through publications, research, and community, the mission of SIAM is to build cooperation between mathematics and the worlds of science and technology.

You can find more about the Society on its official web-page.

The objectives of SIAM, as established in the Certificate of Incorporation, are:

  • To further the application of mathematics to industry and science.
  • To promote basic research in mathematics leading to new methods and techniques useful to industry and science.
  • To provide media for the exchange of information and ideas between mathematicians and other technical and scientific personnel.

Purposes of the EPFL Chapter of SIAM will remain consistent with the objectives of SIAM. Specifically, our Chapter will seek to arrange events and activities for graduate students in applied mathematics and related fields that promotes ties with industry and foster inter-disciplinary collaboration.
