Do you feel like you don’t get enough practice in presenting your work? Are you a bit scared of your final thesis presentation? Or maybe you just want to show your superb research and presentation skills in front of your friends and professors?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions (or even if not), then the Graduate Research Day of the EPFL Chapter of SIAM is just for you!
What is it then? An opportunity to practice your presentation skills before your thesis defense, to get feedback on your work, and to enjoy a relaxing end-of-semester afternoon with friends.
Who can participate? Participation is open to all EPFL Master students, who did a project which broadly falls into the topics of Applied Mathematics, Computational Science and/or their applications. We particularly encourage students to present work done during their semester or Thesis projects. By signing up, you will automatically become a member of the Chapter (which is free).
When will it happen? On June 22nd July 1st 2016, 3-6 pm.
What will it look like?
- 3-5pm : Presentations in groups of at most 8, according to your topic.
- 5pm – 5:30 pm : Prize ceremony in
CM4CM2. - 5:30pm – … : Apéro following the ceremony.
How long should the presentation be? Each student will be allowed roughly 15-20 minutes to present an overview of their project to fellow students, this with 3-5 minutes of questions included. Final format will be announced in due time.
Will there be food? Of course! And some prizes as well!

Who is sponsoring the event? The event is organized by the executive committee of the EPFL Chapter of SIAM, and funded by the EPFL Section de Mathématiques and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
